Wire Screens
Information Needed For Ordering Screens With Edge Preparations
1. Specify number of pieces per opening size required.
2. Determine opening size and type. If ordering slots, be sure to note direction of
slot.
3. Determine wire size and type.
4. Measure the width outside of hooks or inside the hooks.
5. Measure the length of screen, noting any overlaps desired.
6. Determine the type of edge preparation required.
7. Specify any other special information required such as: one hook up-one hook
down, row of openings down center line (to aid in use of center tie downs,) braised center
hold down holes (with or without washers,) welded edge wires, etc.

Steps
To Obtain Maximum Screen Performance
- Loose screens break! If screens are not securely tensioned and
properly supported, they will break before wearing out.
- After removing worn screen(s,) examine support deck and crown bars for
excessive wear. If any crown bars are worn so as to prevent providing proper
support, either replace the bars or use J-bolts to pull down the screen to the crown
bars. On decks which use center angles to hold a hook that is down, make sure that
the angles are not worn. If the angle is worn, it will be impossible to properly
tension the screens.
- Replace Crown Rubber (Channel Rubber or Bucker Rubber) every time screens
are replaced to ensure a level cushioning surface.
- Replace all worn clamp rails, center tie downs, nuts and bolts. A
side clamp rail that is worn thin cannot provide sufficient tensioning. Do not leave
out any bolts in the rails or center tie downs.
- Make sure the screens fit securely on the deck. Watch for loose
spots, edges that are set on top of one another, clamp rails overlapping two screens,
screens not centered with at least 1/2" (3/4" preferred) gap between the outside
edge and the vibrator's side wall, and screen edges bottoming out on the shelf before
achieving proper tensioning. Also check for proper crown on the deck. The
screen should fit snugly against every crown bar.
- After running the vibrator for several hours, retighten the screen(s)
which have been replaced to prevent breakage due to stretching.
- Routinely check for missing bolts, missing crown rubber, loose nuts, and
loose clamp rails.
- Problems with the vibrator can cause screens to
break prematurely!
- Periodically check vibrator for balance and violent, uneven vibration.
- Inspect the areas around the machine watching for material leakage
build-up which may interrupt the natural vibration of the screen.
- Correct improper conditions promptly. Allowing bearing problems or
other vibration problems to continue to increases the likelihood of causing damage to
other parts, such as screens, crown bars, and deck supports.
- Uneven material flow and worn spray bars can also
cause excessive wear in spots, thereby reducing the screen's efficiency.
- Periodically wash out material which has built up in feed chutes, which
may cause uneven material flow.
- Watch for direct concentrated water flow from spray bars. Use spray
bar deflectors to fan the water spray on the screening surface. Quickly replace any
worn deflectors.
